People partnership for the new generation of leaders
Hi, I’m Serg!
I’ve spent over 20 years leading People functions across industries and environments. Whether in finance, health, tech, or education; at scrappy startups, big firms, or global corporations; I’ve seen how the tenets (and impact) of good management remain the same. So I’m on a mission to develop the new generation of leaders.
I created Learning Serg with a mission to develop the new generation of leaders and help them guide businesses and workforces to a better future.
Why do so many businesses start strong, then stagnate, flail, or collapse? Why do so many people hate their job? Bad management.
Bad management is the root cause of all organizational problems. It leads to disengaged workforces, bungled business growth, and crappy operations that inflate costs and increase risks. We know this from research, common knowledge, and personal experience.
We have all been through the cycle of ‘excited > committed > disillusioned > disconnected.’ I’ve watched colleagues, teams, and entire workforces go through it. Over time, the cycles get shorter and work gets crappier faster.
Bad managers become bad executives, having never learned what it means to manage and lead. Most managers figure out the job on their own through trial and error, or at some point are fed bureaucratic corporate bullshit training — both insufficient tactics considering that management is actually quite hard. Unless you luck into a natural tendency for key skills, or a great mentor, being a manager can be draining and unrewarding.
Under ineffective executives, businesses see their operations, then growth, and eventually sustainability, all at risk. This fuels the desperate, toxic management that’s now the norm and puts us in a state of perpetual contentiousness between business and employees. Managers are stuck in the middle, which really sucks. So the cycle of bad management continues.
The future of work is at an inflection point.
The new generation of leaders has an incredible opportunity to redefine management, establish new work norms, fix employer/employee dynamics, and ensure sustainable business success with a modern and engaged workforce.
Learning Serg is people partnership for a new generation of leaders committed to building organizations where work is fulfilling and management is rewarding.
